GROW™ Neuroaffirming Behaviour Framework

A Leading Framework for Ethical, Neuroaffirming Behaviour Support & Inclusive Practice

Behaviour is communication. GROW™ gives you the framework, the tools, and the community to interpret and understand what neurodivergent individuals are telling you, and respond in ways that are genuinely helpful.

Designed for allied health professionals, educators, and disability support practitioners ready to move from compliance to genuine connection.

START WITH GROW™ FOUNDATIONS

Something Has to Change

For too long, behaviour support has focused on compliance: reducing, controlling, or eliminating behaviours without asking why they’re happening or what the person is trying to communicate through them.

The result? Masking, burnout, trauma, shame, and an expectation that neurodivergent people can be shaped to fit environments that were never designed for them.

Practitioners working in this space know something is wrong. They are constantly told to "be neuroaffirming," "reduce masking," or "support regulation," yet they are left without the practical frameworks, tools, or reflective processes needed to confidently embed these principles into everyday practice.

They want to do better. They just haven't had a framework that bridges the gap between theory and real-world clinical capability.

The GROW™ Shift

GROW™ changes the fundamental question at the heart of behaviour support.

Instead of asking: “How do we reduce this behaviour?”
We ask: “What is this person communicating, and how can we genuinely support their wellbeing?”

This is not merely a philosophical shift. It has direct, practical implications for how you assess, plan, and show up for the people you support. It is a shift from power-over to power-with. From fear-based management to safety-based connection.

WHAT IS THE GROW FRAMEWORK?

A Structured, Values-Led Approach to Behaviour Support

GROW Framework Square Matrix.jpg

GROW™ is a comprehensive neuroaffirming behaviour support and inclusive practice framework designed to guide practitioners toward more ethical, effective, and sustainable support practices for neurodivergent individuals.

We work with practitioners from many backgrounds including:

  • behaviour support practitioners,

  • allied health professionals,

  • educators,

  • disability support workers,

  • schools,

  • organisations,

  • leadership teams,

  • and families

Built on four interconnected pillars, GROW™ provides the language, tools, and conceptual scaffolding to practise with confidence, compassion, and integrity.

More than a training programme, GROW™ serves as:

  • A professional practice framework to guide clinical reasoning.

  • An implementation lens that translates neuroaffirming values into daily action.

  • A reflective practice model to safely review and refine your approach.

  • A systems-based approach to understanding behaviour, regulation, and inclusion.

G

G: Grounded in Identity

Neurodivergent identity is not a deficit to be managed. It is fundamental, valid, and worthy of affirmation. Practitioners learn to honour identity rather than pathologise it, and to recognise behaviours that serve identity-protective functions.

R

R: Responsive to Needs
All behaviour stems from unmet needs. GROW™ equips practitioners to look beneath the surface to identify physical, sensory, emotional, and relational needs, and to respond proactively rather than reactively.

O

O: Open to Communication
Communication is far more than speech. GROW™ embraces the full spectrum of how neurodivergent individuals communicate (through movement, AAC, scripting, gesture, and behaviour itself) and creates environments where all of these are welcomed.

W

W: Whole-Person, Whole System Lens
Behaviour occurs within a context. Real change requires adapting environments, families, schools, and systems - not reshaping the individual to fit spaces not designed for them.

The framework supports professionals to understand behaviour through the interconnected lens of:

  • nervous systems,

  • sensory processing,

  • communication differences,

  • unmet needs,

  • identity,

  • relationships,

  • trauma,

  • environmental demands,

  • and systemic barriers.

WHO GROW™ IS FOR?

Built for Anyone Supporting Neurodivergent Individuals

Whether you’re early in your career or a seasoned clinician, GROW™ meets you where you are and gives you what your practice has been missing.

Families are increasingly seeking out practitioners who understand neurodivergent identity, prioritise regulation over compliance, and can work alongside them without judgement. Being GROW™ certified signals to the families you work with that you are that practitioner.

Allied Health Professionals
Occupational therapists, speech pathologists, psychologists, and behaviour support practitioners ready for an evidence-informed framework that aligns with their values.

Educators and School Support Staff
Teachers, learning support officers, and school leaders looking to create genuinely inclusive, low-demand environments where neurodivergent students can thrive.

Disability Support Workers
Practitioners seeking practical, affirming tools to support individuals with greater confidence, compassion, and clinical rigour.

Service Managers and Organisations
Leaders looking to build neuroaffirming culture across their teams, align with NDIS quality expectations, and embed sustainable change at a systems level.

Parents, Carers, and Family Advocates
Families wanting a deeper understanding of their child’s behaviour and practical strategies grounded in connection rather than compliance.

What Sets GROW™ Apart?

Rather than asking:
“How do we manage behaviour?”

GROW™ reframes practice toward:
“What is this person communicating, experiencing, needing, or navigating and how do we create environments where they can genuinely thrive?”

Lived Experience at the Centre
GROW™ was created by a neurodivergent practitioner and parent to children with disability. It reflects what families and individuals are actually navigating, not just what clinical literature recommends.

Evidence-Informed and Rigorous
Developed in consultation with neurodivergent communities and aligned with the latest research in identity safety, trauma-informed care, and neuroaffirming practice.

Australia’s First Certifiable Pathway
GROW™ is the first framework in Australia to bring neuroaffirming behaviour support into a structured, certifiable professional development pathway with formal recognition.

Aligned with NDIS Expectations
The GROW™ pathway supports practitioners to meet NDIS requirements including practitioner suitability, capability development, safeguarding awareness, and evidence-based documented practice.

A Community, Not Just a Course
GROW™ practitioners join a growing national network of values-aligned professionals, with ongoing peer supervision, professional development, and a public directory to connect with families and employers.
