About Grow Therapy Services

Reimagining Behaviour Support Through Understanding, Identity and Belonging

Grow Therapy Services was created from a simple but powerful belief:

Behaviour makes more sense when we understand the person behind it.

For too long, neurodivergent children, young people and families have been asked to fit systems that were never designed with them in mind.

Support has often focused on compliance over connection.
Behaviour over wellbeing.
Intervention over understanding.

We knew there had to be a better way.

Today, Grow Therapy Services is recognised as one of Australia's emerging leaders in neuroaffirming behaviour support, practitioner training, and inclusive practice development.

Through our clinical work, professional education, and the GROW™ Neuroaffirming Framework, we are helping reshape how behaviour is understood across families, schools, disability services and communities.

Our Story

Grow Therapy Services was founded through the intersection of professional expertise and lived experience.

As a Developmental Educator, Behaviour Support Practitioner, disability advocate and parent of neurodivergent children, Carol Hegan repeatedly witnessed the gap between what families needed and what systems were offering.

Families were exhausted from constantly explaining their children.

Children were being misunderstood.

Practitioners were searching for approaches that aligned with both evidence and lived experience.

Schools wanted practical guidance but often lacked frameworks that translated neuroaffirming values into everyday practice.

Again and again, the same question emerged:

What if behaviour support started with understanding rather than correction?

That question became the foundation of Grow Therapy Services.

And eventually, it became the foundation of the GROW™ Framework.

We believe growth happens when people feel safe, seen, and supported.

More Than Therapy

While Grow Therapy Services continues to provide Positive Behaviour Support, Developmental Education, parent coaching and therapeutic supports, our vision extends far beyond individual services.

We believe meaningful change happens when entire systems begin working differently.

This means supporting:

  • Families

  • Practitioners

  • Educators

  • Organisations

  • Communities

to better understand neurodivergent experiences through a lens of identity, wellbeing, communication and human rights.

Our goal is not simply to provide support.

Our goal is to influence the future of support.

The GROW™ Neuroaffirming Framework

The GROW™ Framework sits at the centre of everything we do.

Developed through years of clinical practice, lived experience, family collaboration and neuroaffirming principles, the framework helps people understand behaviour through four interconnected lenses:

Grounded in Identity

Recognising that wellbeing begins with feeling safe, respected, valued and understood.

Responsive to Needs

Understanding behaviour as communication of unmet sensory, emotional, environmental and relational needs.

Open to Communication Differences

Supporting authentic communication in all its forms.

Whole Person, Whole System

Recognising that behaviour cannot be separated from the environments, systems and relationships surrounding a person.

Today, the GROW™ Framework informs our therapy services, behaviour support, parent coaching, practitioner training and organisational consulting.

It is also becoming the foundation of a growing national community of professionals committed to neuroaffirming practice.

Leading a New Conversation

The disability, education and allied health sectors are changing.

Families are increasingly seeking practitioners who understand behaviour beyond compliance.

Organisations are searching for approaches that align with contemporary evidence, safeguarding expectations, lived experience perspectives and human rights principles.

Practitioners want frameworks that help them confidently apply neuroaffirming practice in real-world settings.

We believe the future belongs to approaches that prioritise:

  • Identity safety

  • Communication accessibility

  • Relationship-based practice

  • Psychological wellbeing

  • Systems thinking

  • Meaningful inclusion

Grow Therapy Services exists to help lead that future.

Building a National Community of Practice

Through the GROW™ Certification Pathway, Community of Practice, consulting services and professional training, we are working to build a network of practitioners, educators, organisations and leaders committed to creating safer and more inclusive environments for neurodivergent people.

Because real change does not happen through one practitioner.

It happens through communities of people working together.

Our Vision

A future where neurodivergent people are understood, supported and empowered to thrive without needing to mask, change who they are, or sacrifice their wellbeing to belong.

A future where behaviour support is grounded in understanding.

A future where inclusion means more than access.

A future where every person has the opportunity to grow.

And we are committed to helping build it.

Welcome to the GROW™ Movement.
